Meet Paul

PorthouseDean Structural Engineers Meet our team

Name: Paul Horsfall

Date started: 16.01.16

Job Role: Associate Director

So Paul, tell us about your Employment history.

"I have since graduating from University of Bath in 2004 been involved with most sectors of Civil and Structural Engineering including Energy, Highways, Drainage, Buildings, Defence at a wide range of companies including Atkins, Hydrock, Structures 1 and JDL. During this time I have been lucky enough to work on some fantastic projects from Hinkley Point C, Waste to Energy Plants, Colleges, Student Accommodation, Private houses, Retail extensions for the big supermarkets, Refurbishments of historic buildings and even an in-land surfing lake."

What do Porthouse Dean offer that other companies don’t?

"We have developed an amazing system of working which allows not only 100% flexibility in terms of location but also a completely integrated team where every member can undertake pretty much any task from anywhere. The software which we use ensures that the quality systems which are so fundamental to successful delivery of projects can be maintained even when our engineers are working overseas. I could be working on a project from the Gloucester Office whilst communicating with our team in Manchester and the checking of the project might be done the same day when one of our senior team is working away in the Pyrenees.  If you get a bit of the winter blues its really no problem, take the laptop and go to Southern France for a week and you can work just as successfully overlooking he Cote D’Azur.

In addition, we really do value our clients and try and give the best possible service despite being a relatively cost effective option. By customising the service to the project this means that unnecessary work is not carried out and so the client’s money is spent where they want it to be. Some of the feedback we have had has been amazing which makes working at PorthouseDean very rewarding.

This is a truly innovative business which is really exciting to be involved with at its embryonic stage and really excited to see how the new few years develop."

Tell us a little bit more about yourself...

"The guys in the office really appreciate my sense of humour, it’s fair to say that we push boundaries not only in terms of engineering but also in terms of having fun. I’m never adverse to a short break in conversation to stimulate discussion and I really enjoy the banter we share as a team. We like to get together for a drink now and again and the Porthouse Dean nights out are already legendary. I personally also like to take part in fairly arduous endurance events all over the world to keep fit, although it’s fair to say that Chris and Sam really have no idea what I’m up to (or believe half the stuff I tell them anyway)."

Meet Akhil

Meet our Team Careers Page Structural Engineers

Name: Akhil Mathew

Date started: 23.06.14

Job Role: Graduate Engineer

So Akhil, tell us about your Education history.

"I completed my undergraduate Degree (Civil Engineering) in India and Postgraduate Degree (Structural Engineering) from The University of Manchester in 2014."

What do Porthouse Dean offer that other companies don’t?

"PorthouseDean has helped me improve both professionally and personally since I joined as a Graduate Engineer back in 2014. I'm constantly working on challenging and interesting projects. I've gained exposure in setting up the company's Quality Assurance procedure which helped us getting our ISO Certification. PorthouseDean is the first company I've worked at since graduating. I’m very impressed with the quality systems in place the team have put in place which ensures everything is well organised and traceable. We don’t promise anything which we can’t deliver but we deliver what we promise. I believe we are the best in terms of quality and efficiency, delivering projects to the highest standard. Our customer feedback is a testament to this. I think this is what sets us apart from other consultancies."

Tell us a little bit more about yourself...

"I enjoy working with PorthouseDean, it's a very humorous and friendly environment to work. As a company which keeps growing, we're often working to very tight deadlines but this never phases the Senior Engineers who are always on hand to give me guidance and advice. As a Graduate Engineer the exposure to a wide variety of projects and mentorship from my senior engineer is helping me grow as an Engineer and to work towards my Chartership."
